Land of Snowy Mountains

Himachal Pradesh means land of snowy mountains. This image is from Jot Pass. It is 70 km from Pathankhot and at a height of 8,600 feet above sea level. Dalhousie is 8 km by trekking!

We did not trek to Jot pass from Dalhousie where we were staying. We travelled by car on  roads clinging to the mountains. The roads are well-maintained but narrow. Luckily there was little traffic. There was no snow or rain either as it was in June.On top of Jot Pass, we met a family from Pathankhot. In search of greener pastures for their cows, the family moves every summer from Punjab to Jot Pass in Himachal Pradesh. The area was well grazed by the cows. The views from Jot Pass are breathtaking. One can see the Himalayas and the plains down below. The shot was taken with my Canon Sureshot 105 zoom camera. It is a print film camera. See the photo on my Flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/uasatish/3746591364/

Taj Mahal
Taj Mahal is a mausoleum  built by Mughal emperor Shah Jehan in memory of his beloved begum, Mumtaz Mahal. It is one of the seven wonders of the world.

I shot this image of Taj Mahal when the sun was close to the horizon. The slanting rays of sun cast a touch of pink to left of the dome and minarets.

Many tourists visit Taj Mahal and crowds throng the area. The walkways are on both sides and I was able to avoid people showing up on the photo by positioning myself in the middle of the grounds.

Camera Settings for Landscape Photography

Your digital SLR camera can capture the mystery and grandeur of landscape photography. The following tips can help you to produce attractive landscape pictures.

Depth of Field

You will use the camera either in manual mode or aperture priority mode. To bring most of the scene into focus, aperture has to be kept small so that the depth of field is big.  It is best to keep the f/stop between f/8 and f/11. If the f/stop is higher than f/11, you could see some loss of sharpness.
