You may have had a wonderful new-year eve day with lots of good food and cheerful experiences. We now have a brand new year ahead of us and this looks like the right time to choose the top ten posts of 2016.

From the beginning of 2016, I put the focus of my posts on travel as well as photography. Since then, the site has gained in popularity and page views have steadily climbed up. It was not an easy job for me to select the top 10 posts from last year. I had to some extent depend on the website traffic and social media engagements to bring you your favourite posts of 2016.

Howrah Bridge – Kolkata’s crown jewel

The nickname of Kolkata is  City of Joy after Dominique Lapierre‘s 1985 novel of the same name. The city is on the east bank of the Hooghly River.

Howrah Bridge

Across the Hooghly is Howrah Bridge. It was built during World War II and opened to traffic in 1943. Tata Iron & Steel Co, Jamshedpur had supplied 23,500 tons of high tensile steel for the construction. Rivets fasten all the joints in the bridge. Howrah Bridge is the busiest cantilevered bridge in the world. More than 100,000 vehicles pass through it daily. The bridge links Kolkata and Howrah and is a lifeline of the city. …

Two Days in Lucerne were a great experience. Switzerland is synonymous  with the town which is on the shores of Lake Lucerne in the centre of Switzerland. The lake has an intricate shape, with several sharp bends and four arms. The nearest airports are Zurich (68 km) and Basel (104 km). Lucerne is connected by trains to all major cities within and outside Switzerland. Fast trains take you to Paris in about 4hours 45min.
