Wisp

It was a misty morning and the river was covered in a veil. Visibility was restricted.   The sun could not penetrate the soft mist. Outline of the shore could be made out.

Village Road

This is one of my photos that turned up on Flickr Explore. Explore is Flickr’s way of showcasing the most interesting photos within a given point in time — usually over a 24 hour period. I took the shot after the sun had gone down. The focal point was a lone tree towards end of the village road. The road leads the eye towards the tree, giving a feeling of depth.

Village Road

Location

The dirt road is located close to Vasai, Maharashtra. There is little traffic on the road as few people live in the vicinity. There is no electricity either. The land had been used for many years to produce salt. May be because of the salt content, few trees grow in the area.

Camera Info

The light was low and I used a wide aperture of f/2.8. Shutter speed was 1/40 second. Focal length was 5.8 mm, with ISO speed at 160.

Alone in a Boat

It was a beautiful place to be in a boat alone. Blue sky, blue river water and a green island. The sun was shining and small white clouds were floating in the sky. The water was calm and smooth. The small boat was probably taken out on a fishing trip.

Location

Kariyankode river in northern Kerala is the location for the shot. On its way to Arabian Sea, the river flows between Cheruvathur and Nileshwaram towns in Malabar.  I was on a bridge overlooking the river and it gave me a vantage point for the shot.

Camera Info

As the scene was bright, I used a shutter speed of 1/250 second and ISO speed of 80. Aperture was f/4.0. Focal length was 11 mm.

Radiance

Rays of the sun are what makes the image radiant. Shafts of  light were coming out through the clouds that were low in the sky. Colours of the sky were subtle and nice.

Location

I was on the road leading to Naigaon Koliwada when I captured the photo. There are overhead power transmissio lines on both sides of the road. The road passes through open fields and the sun appeared to set at the western end.

Camera Info

I composed the photo in such a way that the horizon was low on the frame. Aperture was set to f/11 to get a good depth of field. Exposure program was in Aperture Priority.

Low Tide

The challenge here for me was to get the composition right so that I could depict vastness of the beach. I positioned the boat towards the bottom left corner. From there, the eye is drawn by the water line towards the far distance. It also helped that there were no people in the frame.

Low Tide
Location

The location is Kalamb beach near Nallasopara in Maharashtra. The beach extends for a few kilometres. At low tide, it is quite wide. There are not many tourists at the beach so usually it is not crowded.

Camera Info

It was sunny and bright when I took the shot. So I could afford to use a shutter speed of 1/800 sec. Focal length was 33 mm and aperture was set to f/6.3.
