Bandra Sea Link

Bandra Sea Link is a unique cable stay bridge in the waters of Arabian Sea. It connects Bandra Reclamation with Worli in South Mumbai. It runs for 5.6 km over the Arabian Sea. Travel time is 20-30 min. Motorcycles and pedestrians are not allowed on the sealink.

First four lanes were opened to traffic in June 2009. All eight lanes were opened on 24 March 2010. It took ten years to complete and is considered an engineering marvel. It cost USD 280 million to build. Daily traffic count on the bridge is 40,000 vehicles.

This shot was taken from Shivaji Park area. Bandra end of the sealink is seen to the right.

Incandescence

Incandescence is the phenomenon of light emission by a body as its temperature is raised. I shot this image on an April evening. The sky was cloudless and sun was just above the horizon. The colours in the sky were dramatic.

I underexposed a little to make the colours more rich and defined. I used my Canon EOS 550D in aperture priority mode with exposure compensation. I switched the white balance to cloudy to get beautiful tones from the sky

F-Stop was at f/3.5 and focal length was set to 20 mm . So the sun appears small.

Day’s Catch

The train journey from Mangalore to Kerala is scenic. The rail tracks run  close to Arabian Sea. Not far from the railway station in Kasaragod, there is a small fishing jetty. It has a landing dock that connects to a shed with red roof.

The jetty is in a bay and wave movements are less. The white bridge stands out against the blue waters. I had shot this image on a January morning. There were no clouds in the sky. The sea appears to blend with the sky.

The shutter speed was 1/250 sec. Aperture was at f/9 to get a good depth of field.

Land of Snowy Mountains

Himachal Pradesh means land of snowy mountains. This image is from Jot Pass. It is 70 km from Pathankhot and at a height of 8,600 feet above sea level. Dalhousie is 8 km by trekking!

We did not trek to Jot pass from Dalhousie where we were staying. We travelled by car on  roads clinging to the mountains. The roads are well-maintained but narrow. Luckily there was little traffic. There was no snow or rain either as it was in June.On top of Jot Pass, we met a family from Pathankhot. In search of greener pastures for their cows, the family moves every summer from Punjab to Jot Pass in Himachal Pradesh. The area was well grazed by the cows. The views from Jot Pass are breathtaking. One can see the Himalayas and the plains down below. The shot was taken with my Canon Sureshot 105 zoom camera. It is a print film camera. See the photo on my Flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/uasatish/3746591364/
