Land of Snowy Mountains

Himachal Pradesh means land of snowy mountains. This image is from Jot Pass. It is 70 km from Pathankhot and at a height of 8,600 feet above sea level. Dalhousie is 8 km by trekking!

We did not trek to Jot pass from Dalhousie where we were staying. We travelled by car on  roads clinging to the mountains. The roads are well-maintained but narrow. Luckily there was little traffic. There was no snow or rain either as it was in June.On top of Jot Pass, we met a family from Pathankhot. In search of greener pastures for their cows, the family moves every summer from Punjab to Jot Pass in Himachal Pradesh. The area was well grazed by the cows. The views from Jot Pass are breathtaking. One can see the Himalayas and the plains down below. The shot was taken with my Canon Sureshot 105 zoom camera. It is a print film camera. See the photo on my Flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/uasatish/3746591364/
